Description |
Expressions of interest sought We are looking for new members to fill vacancies in our long-established intentional community.
Korinderie Ridge Co-operative was established over 40 years ago and continues to function cohesively and productively through our focus on social bonds, shared infrastructure and conservation of our natural resources and biodiversity.
The 196 hectare elevated property is located adjacent to Bundjalung National Park near Evans Head in northern NSW and is zoned for multiple occupancy. The Co-operative has 18 shares owned singly or jointly, and the community currently includes 14 council approved owner-built dwellings (some still under construction) set along a ridgeline.
The vegetation is coastal dry sclerophyll forest with ephemeral rainforest-lined creeks. Weed prevention and control is proactively undertaken through ongoing efforts by community members, together with an annual program of volunteer bush regeneration.
Growing our own food is an important aspect of our lifestyle and the community’s 6 mega-litre dam provides water for community and householders’ gardens as well as protection from bushfires. It is also a nice place to swim and relax on hot days. We enjoy coming together at weekly shared dinners, fortnightly work days and occasional parties. Formal meetings for decision-making are convened every two months.
We have a rustic very large open-plan community centre overlooking the ocean with solar power, rainwater tanks, shower block, composting toilets, wood heater, a snooker table, library and an outdoor stage for performances and events. Additional sheds house our shared plant and equipment. The community is currently a healthy mix of young families with kids and several wise heads who have been here since the beginning.
If you are interested in finding out whether this property and lifestyle is for you, please send a brief expression of interest, after which we will contact you about arranging an initial visit. Formal applications cannot be considered until further visits allow you to get to know our environment and friendly community (and us to get to know you).
